A father of four who initially thought his severe leg pain was due to sciatica has sadly passed away after discovering it was a symptom of an aggressive form of cancer. Joe Till, aged 33, sought help at walk-in centers multiple times, complaining of leg pain, only to be diagnosed with stage four diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a fast-growing blood cancer. Joe, a devoted gym-goer and nature enthusiast from Lancaster, received the devastating news that there were limited treatment options available through the NHS, with a prognosis of only a few months to live.
Tragically, Joe lost his battle with cancer on May 17. A fundraising campaign was launched to assist his wife and children, raising over £13,500. His funeral is set to take place on May 29.
The journey for Joe began in 2024 when he started experiencing leg discomfort. Despite being initially diagnosed with sciatica, his condition worsened to the point where he struggled to climb stairs. Following his cancer diagnosis in July 2024, Joe underwent intensive treatments that eventually led to a loss of mobility from his shoulders down.
Although there were periods where Joe’s health seemed to stabilize during treatment, the cancer resurfaced. By February 9, medical professionals informed Joe that there were no further treatment options within the NHS.
To provide additional support for his family, a fundraising initiative was established to cover private therapies and secure their family home. In a heartfelt message on the fundraising platform, Joe’s family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, highlighting Joe’s bravery and strength throughout his battle.
In honoring Joe’s wishes for a celebration of his life rather than a somber occasion, the family encouraged a joyous remembrance of his remarkable spirit. The fundraising efforts have garnered significant contributions, with over £13,700 raised from 471 donations toward the £30,000 target.
For those wishing to assist Joe’s family, the GoFundMe page is accessible for further contributions. Joining the community in remembering Joe’s legacy, the family appreciates the overwhelming support during this challenging time.
