A tragic incident unfolded as a long-married couple, David and Susan Jeffcock, took their lives by jumping off cliffs in Whitby. The heartbreaking note left behind by David, who was battling bone cancer, expressed Susan’s desire to be with him in their final moments.
The couple, married for over five decades, meticulously planned their last day together before taking the fateful plunge from a cliff overlooking Whitby Harbour. Their bodies were discovered on July 30 after they fell 180ft to their deaths, suffering “multi-trauma.”
David, 80, and Susan, 74, were well-known in the community for their loving and lively personalities. Despite the absence of family members during the inquest, friends and acquaintances shared fond memories of the couple’s joyful presence, especially their shared love for live music and socializing in local pubs.
The North Yorkshire Coroner confirmed the cause of death as “multi-trauma,” with no additional details disclosed. Authorities were alerted by a passerby who spotted the couple on the rocks, leading to a swift rescue operation by emergency services as the tide rose rapidly.
