A man believed to have strangled his six-year-old daughter before taking his own life in a tragic “murder-suicide” has been identified by locals.
Krzysztof Daczkowski, in his 30s, was discovered deceased alongside his daughter Julia at their residence in north Dublin on Saturday evening. The incident came to light when Julia’s mother, Aga, returned home and made the distressing find. Residents reported hearing her “shocking scream” before emergency services, including Dublin Fire Brigade, ambulance crews, and police, arrived at the scene around 8 pm.
According to sources, Daczkowski’s body was located near the stairs. Authorities do not suspect any forced entry or involvement of a third party, prompting the launch of a murder investigation. It is suspected that the father and daughter had already passed away several hours before Aga’s return.
Earlier today, the bodies were taken from the property for postmortems to guide the ongoing inquiry. The tragic event unfolded in the family’s serene neighborhood, directly facing a children’s playground. Locals recalled seeing the father and daughter frequently visiting the playground together, as reported by the Irish Mirror.
One resident described coming out to a distressing scream. “It was the mother,” the neighbor stated. “She had just returned from work and found them.” Other locals shared the heartbreak of explaining the situation to their children, many of whom played with the young girl at the playground.
“It’s incredibly difficult. We are unsure how to address this with our children. It’s just tragic,” expressed a local woman. “The news spread, but the full weight of it didn’t hit until the searches started this morning,” they continued.
“Our main concern now is shielding the children from this. My two daughters are the same age as the little girl. It’s shocking. They recognized her from the playground. We always greeted the family. My daughters thought a movie was being filmed this morning due to the cameras, so I just went along with it.”
Another neighbor remarked, “It’s truly heartbreaking. You can’t fathom the situation. We have many children here in the playground. It’s truly sad. This neighborhood is usually very quiet. They were a quiet family. People have their speculations. I have mine, but regardless, it’s a tragedy. They were a lovely, reserved family with just one child between them.”
A local resident recounted the tense moment she witnessed a fire engine speeding into the neighborhood, sensing that something was wrong. “I was in my room and saw the fire truck arrive. Their urgency indicated seriousness. There were four ambulances, two fire trucks, the engine, and then the police. When the ambulances left without anyone, I thought this isn’t good; they aren’t bringing anyone out. But I never imagined something like this.”
Neighbors shared observations of the father spending time with his daughter on the street, noting that the grandmother had departed just days before the tragic event after spending the summer with the family. “He (the father) spent the entire summer teaching her to ride her bike without training wheels. You’d see him in the middle of the street stopping traffic, and you’d think, ‘Get off the road.’ The grandmother was there all summer. She had been there all summer. You would always see her walking up and down the street with the little girl,” a neighbor disclosed.
In a previous statement, a Garda representative stated, “Police are probing all aspects related to the discovery of two bodies at a home in Finglas, Dublin, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Authorities and emergency services were summoned to the residence in the Cappagh area shortly before 8 pm.
“The site is being preserved for forensic analysis by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner has been informed, and the services of the State Pathologist’s Office have been sought. No further details are available at this time.”
