“Trio Faces Charges in Leeds Teen’s Murder”

Date:

Three individuals, ages 18, 19, and 17, have made an appearance at Leeds Crown Court for the alleged murder of 16-year-old Chloe Watson Dransfield. The victim was discovered with stab wounds in Kennerleigh Avenue in Leeds and later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. The accused were identified as Kayla Smith, Archie Rycroft, and the unnamed 17-year-old boy. The court session was attended by Chloe’s family and acquaintances.

Smith, residing in Kennerleigh Avenue, appeared via videolink from HMP New Hall, while Rycroft, located on Middleton Park Road, appeared from HMP Wetherby. The underage defendant participated from a remand facility. The trio confirmed their identities and birthdates during the hearing and were remanded into custody until the next court date on May 1. A trial date has been tentatively set for November 10.

Previously, the three suspects were brought before Leeds Magistrates’ Court where Smith and Rycroft were remanded in custody, while the 17-year-old was placed in secure accommodation. The District Judge informed them that the murder charges would be addressed at the crown court, emphasizing the need for a prompt hearing on April 2.

During the court proceedings, no pleas were entered for the murder charges. Rycroft denied involvement in two burglary offenses and one theft case, while the 17-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to a separate burglary incident.

West Yorkshire Police disclosed that an 18-year-old male, also from Leeds, remains in custody on suspicion of murder. Two other individuals arrested in connection with the case have been released on bail. Chloe’s family expressed their profound grief and affection for her, highlighting her vibrant personality and the void her absence has left behind.
