Donald Trump reportedly informed Attorney General Pam Bondi that her tenure is nearing its end as he grows increasingly frustrated over the Epstein Files. Speculation surrounding Bondi’s future in leading the US Justice Department has escalated in Washington DC.
Bondi has been overseeing the administration’s handling of the Epstein Files, a matter that has greatly irked Trump, as his name appears numerous times in the documents. Trump’s confidence in Bondi wavered after a congressional committee, with bipartisan support, summoned her to testify under oath regarding the investigation into Epstein’s crimes.
It is important to note that being listed in the files does not imply guilt or awareness of the offenses committed by Epstein. Nonetheless, Trump’s name is mentioned in FBI memos that relate to unverified allegations of child sexual abuse against him. The White House vehemently denied these claims, stating they lack credible evidence.
There are discussions that Trump is contemplating replacing Bondi with Lee Zeldin, the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin, a former congressman and staunch supporter of Trump, played a key role in defending the President during his initial impeachment proceedings.
Recent reports from The New York Times suggest that Trump has yet to finalize his decision on dismissing Bondi. Notably, Bondi accompanied Trump to the Supreme Court to observe oral arguments on his efforts to eliminate birthright citizenship, which grants nationality to individuals born in the US irrespective of their parents’ immigration status.
In a statement to The Times, Trump expressed appreciation for Bondi’s work, describing her as a commendable individual. Additionally, the US political news outlet Semafor disclosed that multiple sources indicated Trump had informed Bondi that her tenure as Attorney General was drawing to a close.
