Former President Donald Trump reacted strongly to the individual who disrupted the White House correspondents’ dinner, leading to his evacuation. The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was apprehended after chaos erupted in the ballroom with over 2,500 attendees, including Donald and Melania Trump. Surveillance footage captured the suspect bypassing security, shooting an officer who survived thanks to a bulletproof vest.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton hotel around 8:35 pm local time. Shortly after, Trump criticized the gunman as a “lone wolf whack job” during a press conference. He expressed concern over the dangers of his profession and the need for heightened security measures.
Police disclosed that Allen, hailing from Torrance, California, possessed multiple weapons, including a shotgun and handguns. Despite having no criminal record, he faces charges, including firearm-related offenses. Allen, a part-time teacher and video game developer, was recognized as “teacher of the month” in December 2024 by his employer, C2 Education.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for formal charges. The US Attorney for the District of Columbia mentioned the expectation of multiple charges, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the importance of maintaining societal order.
