US President Donald Trump has criticized Iran’s negotiators during their efforts to reach a lasting peace agreement. The conflict between the two countries escalated on February 28 when coordinated strikes were carried out by the US and Israel on key Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran targeted sites across the Middle East and disrupted the vital trade route of the Strait of Hormuz. The US responded by imposing a blockade on Iranian ports in the strait to pressure negotiations and reopen the route.
Pakistan has intervened to mediate discussions between the conflicting parties. Despite a temporary ceasefire, a permanent peace settlement has not yet been achieved. President Trump expressed his disappointment with Iran’s response to a peace proposal on Truth Social, calling it “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.”
The recent US proposal aimed to resolve the conflict, restore access to the Strait of Hormuz, and reduce Tehran’s nuclear activities. Iran’s counter-offer reportedly focuses on ensuring safe shipping through the strait before delving into more contentious issues like its nuclear program. According to the IRNA news agency, Iran’s proposal includes guarantees for shipping safety in exchange for a 30-day period to engage in nuclear talks.
