Trump Warns of Russian and Chinese Threat to Greenland

Date:

If the United States does not assert control over Greenland, President Donald Trump has warned that either Russia or China may attempt to invade the territory, reaffirming his determination to pursue ownership of the region.

Addressing a gathering with oil companies interested in participating in potential ventures for Venezuelan resources, President Trump emphasized his intent to acquire Greenland through either diplomatic negotiations or forceful means. When questioned about the financial aspects of the potential purchase from Denmark, to which Greenland belongs, he deferred any discussion on monetary offers for the time being.

“Our course of action regarding Greenland is imminent, regardless of local sentiments, as we cannot afford to allow Russia or China to establish a presence in that region. Ideally, we seek a peaceful resolution, but if necessary, we will resort to more assertive measures,” President Trump remarked.

He further stated, “We will proceed with our plans for Greenland, irrespective of their approval.”

In response to inquiries during his visit to Kyiv, Defense Secretary John Healey categorically denied the possibility of British facilities supporting any US military intervention in Greenland. He emphasized that any British involvement would strictly adhere to legal frameworks and treaty obligations within the NATO alliance, of which both the UK and the US are members.

Recent apprehensions regarding potential US military actions in Greenland have prompted Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, to caution against such actions, highlighting that any hostile move by the US could jeopardize the cohesion of the NATO alliance. European leaders, including Sir Keir Starmer, have emphasized the importance of respecting Greenland and Denmark’s autonomy in determining the territory’s future. Diplomatic engagements have intensified to address concerns of potential Russian aggression in the Arctic region.
