“Trump’s Second UK Visit Kicks Off With Tense Handshake”

Date:

Donald Trump greeted Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper with a prolonged handshake upon arrival at Stansted airport for his second official visit to the UK.

The two exchanged handshakes and engaged in a conversation lasting approximately 11 seconds as Trump stepped off Air Force One before being swiftly transported to Winfield House, the residence of the US Ambassador, where he will stay overnight.

Cooper has previously voiced her disapproval of President Trump’s “aggressive misogyny” and “appalling behavior.” In a 2017 statement, she expressed concerns about the normalization of hatred by Trump, calling it dangerous. Additionally, in a 2015 post, she criticized his actions as irresponsible and risky.

Discussing Theresa May before his 2018 UK visit, Cooper criticized May’s eagerness to engage with Trump, her reluctance to condemn his policies like the Muslim ban and child detentions, and her pursuit of a disadvantageous trade deal. She urged May to stand up to Trump during his visit.

The president arrived in the UK for his significant second state visit to the country this evening. Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to impress Trump during his visit.

Starmer is expected to push Trump towards a more favorable stance on the Ukraine conflict and negotiate a deal to reduce trade barriers for British products entering the US market.
