A woman who worked as a turkey butcher has been convicted of murdering her partner by bludgeoning her to death, then dismembering her body and burying the remains in a garden. Anna Podedworna, aged 40, was found guilty of killing Izabela Zablocka, a 30-year-old mother. The court heard that Podedworna used electrical tape to bind Zablocka’s body before burying it in bin bags in a makeshift grave.
The incident took place in a house in Princes Street, Normanton, Derby, where the two women resided after moving to the UK from Poland. Podedworna confessed to the crime after feeling pressured, leading to the discovery of Zablocka’s body under concrete in the garden. Zablocka had been reported missing in 2010, prompting a police investigation.
Despite Zablocka’s family believing she had run away, Podedworna kept the crime hidden until she surrendered to authorities in 2025. Following a search of the property, human remains were found and confirmed to belong to Zablocka. Podedworna was charged with multiple offenses, including murder and obstructing justice.
After a trial, on February 10, 2026, Podedworna was convicted on all charges. She is currently in custody awaiting sentencing. The women, originally from Poland, had moved to the UK in 2009 and worked at a poultry factory. Zablocka’s young daughter remained in Poland, and her disappearance went unnoticed until years later when a missing person report was filed.
Podedworna admitted to the crime during the trial, claiming self-defense. However, evidence suggested a premeditated act, as she buried the body in the garden and concealed the truth for 15 years. The case remained unsolved until recent developments prompted Podedworna to come forward.
Detective Emma Birch emphasized the closure the verdict brings to Zablocka’s family, who had been in the dark about her fate for years. Birch condemned Podedworna’s actions, stating that justice had finally been served for the victim and her loved ones.
