Marcus Wesson, once perceived as a caring father, committed a heinous act over two decades ago that left witnesses traumatized. The former soldier, who had a history of abusing his wife and her children, entered into a relationship with Rosemary Solorio after his service in Vietnam. Wesson fathered several children with Solorio and subjected them to his abusive behavior.
In 1971, Wesson’s son was born to Rosemary, and shortly after, he began sexually abusing her eight-year-old daughter, Elizabeth. By the time Elizabeth was 14 and Wesson was 34, they married, and she gave birth to their first child four months later. The couple eventually had 10 children, including one who tragically passed away. Additionally, one of Elizabeth’s sisters entrusted her seven children to Wesson’s care due to her struggles with drug addiction.
Living off welfare and extorting money from his children, Wesson had a criminal record for welfare fraud and perjury by 1989. The family lived in dilapidated conditions, moving from abandoned houses to rundown shacks and even boats. However, the true horror occurred within their home, where Wesson imposed strict control over his family, indoctrinating them with his twisted beliefs.
Claiming to be God and rewriting the Bible to suit his delusions, Wesson forced his children to address him as “Master” or “Lord.” He preached apocalyptic prophecies, instilling fear in his family. Shockingly, he groomed his young daughters for marriage to himself, teaching them inappropriate sexual acts from a young age. Wesson raped his daughters and nieces, resulting in pregnancies among them.
The household was a place of oppression, with siblings forbidden from interacting with each other or their mother. In 2004, Wesson announced a move from California to Washington, prompting intervention from family members concerned for the children’s welfare. The subsequent police visit revealed a horrific scene – nine bodies, including Wesson’s children, shot through the eye in a bedroom filled with antique coffins.
Marcus Wesson, now 79 years old, remains incarcerated at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center following his death sentence in 2005. Despite Governor Newsom’s moratorium on executions, Wesson’s crimes continue to evoke anger and disbelief among those who witnessed the appalling tragedy. The community and law enforcement have been left haunted by the brutality of Wesson’s actions, with many still grappling with the aftermath of the devastating events.
