“UAE Blames Iran for Drone Attack on Nuclear Plant”

Date:

Iran is being held responsible for a recent drone attack on a nuclear facility in the United Arab Emirates, which resulted in a fire near the premises. The Abu Dhabi media office released a statement providing information on the safety measures and any injuries incurred during the incident.

According to the statement, a fire broke out in an electrical generator located outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region due to a drone strike. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there was no impact on the radiological safety levels. The authorities assured that all necessary precautions have been taken, with updates to follow as they are available.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the fire did not compromise the plant’s safety or the functionality of its essential systems, emphasizing that all units are operating normally. Additionally, it was emphasized to the public to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading unverified details.

While the source of the drone attack remains undisclosed, the UAE has attributed the incident to Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed about the situation and noted that radiation levels at Barakah remained unchanged. The IAEA expressed readiness to assist the UAE authorities if needed, stating that emergency diesel generators were providing power to the plant’s unit 3.

Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the IAEA, expressed serious concerns over the incident, condemning any military actions that jeopardize nuclear safety. Amid escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the US, Tehran has reportedly launched missile and drone attacks on neighboring countries, including the UAE.
