UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett is leading a new initiative aimed at enhancing mental well-being through the sport of mixed martial arts. Pimblett, expected to contend for a lightweight championship next year, has been a vocal supporter of mental health causes. Following his victory over Jordan Leavitt in London in 2022, where he dedicated his win to a friend lost to suicide, Pimblett established The Baddy Foundation. This organization focuses on addressing food insecurity issues and breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
In addition to his foundation work, Pimblett has taken on the role of ambassador for the UFC’s collaboration with OnSide. This partnership involves offering weekly sessions led by expert instructors to young men and women, fostering skills such as self-discipline, self-defense, confidence, coordination, and mental resilience in a nurturing setting.
Reflecting on his upbringing in Liverpool and his journey to UFC stardom, Pimblett stated, “Martial arts provided opportunities I never imagined possible. I am honored to support this program, offering young people in Wirral a chance to discover their passions, boost confidence, and realize their aspirations.”
CEO of OnSide, Jamie Masraff, emphasized the positive impact of the partnership with UFC on youth well-being programs. This collaboration extends to The Hive, focusing on support groups that align with UFC’s commitment to enhancing young people’s mental health. The sessions aim to create a space for open dialogue, confidence-building, resilience strengthening, and a sense of community among young participants.
Pimblett, who has been candid about his own mental health struggles, emphasized the importance of seeking help and breaking the silence on men’s mental health issues. He encouraged men facing challenges to reach out for support, highlighting the significance of communication and seeking assistance rather than suffering in silence.
