“UK Braces for Arctic Blast: Sleet and Snow Forecasted”

Date:

Parts of the United Kingdom are advised to brace for periods of sleet and snow over the upcoming weekend, as the Met Office has cautioned about an approaching bitter Arctic blast causing a significant drop in temperatures. Meteorologists predict that a cold front will follow Storm Benjamin, ushering in icy air from the north and bringing a raw and chilly feel across much of the country. The Met Office recommends that individuals residing in or traveling to elevated areas be prepared for wintry weather conditions.

In the coming days, temperatures are set to plummet sharply, increasing the likelihood of sleet and snow, particularly in regions like the Scottish Highlands and Grampians. The freezing level is expected to decrease, especially in Scotland, reaching around 450 meters above sea level. Consequently, there is a reasonable possibility of sleet and snow in the Scottish Highlands and Grampians. While the risk diminishes further south, isolated frost pockets may form where skies clear and winds calm down.

According to the Met Office’s weather maps, snow flurries are projected to move across northern Scotland on Saturday, persisting with scattered snow showers into Sunday. Although the most severe wintry conditions are anticipated to be restricted to elevated terrain, Saturday is forecasted to feel cold nationwide, with potential frost even in urban areas.

The Met Office reassures that the snow and sleet are unlikely to be intense or disruptive, attributing these conditions to the typical late October weather. Nonetheless, those venturing into mountainous areas are advised to remain prepared. Temperatures are expected to linger below average, struggling to reach double digits in many regions. Anticipated highs include around 11°C in England, 10°C in Wales, 8°C in Scotland, and 7°C in Northern Ireland on Saturday, October 25, with minimal change expected on the following day.

Taking the wind into account, the perceived temperatures are expected to be even colder, particularly in northern and eastern Scotland.
