UK Braces for Days of Snow and Blizzards

Date:

The upcoming days may bring the first significant snowfall of the season to the UK, with weather maps indicating the possibility of blizzards lasting for six consecutive days. Initially, snow is expected in northern Scotland on November 9, spreading southward to cities in southern England like London and Southampton. By November 10, heavy snowfall rates are forecasted for areas like the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland and the Pennines in England.

Moving into November 11, central and southern Scotland, including Edinburgh, could experience snow showers, while England and Wales are likely to see heavy rain. The most intense snowfall is anticipated in northern Scotland on November 12, particularly in the Cairngorms National Park. By November 13 and 14, pockets of snow may travel southward, affecting cities such as Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton, London, and Plymouth.

Although there are expectations of intense snowfall rates, especially in London, the snow is predicted to be brief and unlikely to accumulate significantly in England or Wales. Forecasters from the BBC Weather suggest a cooling trend across the country from mid-November, with potentially drier days but occasional rain showers and windy periods. The Met Office’s forecast for the same period indicates unsettled weather with showers and heavy rain, particularly in western areas, along with strong winds and above-average temperatures. Snowfall predictions are not yet certain according to the national weather agency.
