“UK Braces for Heavy Snow and Arctic Blast”

Date:

Parts of the UK are on alert for another round of snow before the end of the month. Arctic conditions could bring blizzards with potential snowfall of up to 50cm in some areas, accompanied by temperatures dropping to as low as -13C. Recent weather forecasts suggest that Scotland, north-west England, parts of south-west England, and Wales may experience heavy snowfall on Thursday, January 29, with rates reaching up to 10mm per hour.

This snowfall could lead to accumulations of up to 30cm in various regions of England, including Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, the Midlands, Bristol, Somerset, Devon, and London. Northern regions, especially the north of Scotland, previously affected by Storm Goretti, might see snow depths reaching 50cm, while the north-west of England could experience accumulations of up to 23cm, according to projections.

A significant drop in temperatures is expected, with Scotland potentially facing a bitter -13C, while temperatures elsewhere in the country may fall to around -4C. The Met Office has also indicated the possibility of further snowfall before the end of January. The outlook suggests a battle between Atlantic weather systems and high pressure from the east, with milder Atlantic air expected to dominate initially, leading to cloudy and changeable conditions with showers or rain. Later in the period, colder weather is anticipated, increasing the chance of snow across parts of the UK.

This follows the recent severe weather event, Storm Goretti, which brought strong winds and heavy snowfall, prompting weather warnings earlier this month.
