“UK Braces for Severe Snowstorm on Jan. 27”

Date:

Next week is expected to bring wintry conditions across the UK, with several cities likely to experience snowfall. Advanced weather modeling indicates that a storm will sweep through the country on January 27, initially affecting Wales, particularly Cardiff and Swansea. Heavy rain is also forecasted for Northern Ireland and the southwest of England.

By around 3 am, the ECMWF weather model shows that the snow will move northward and eastward, with Northern Ireland expected to bear the brunt of heavy snowfall, including Belfast. Cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London may also witness snow around this time, with a significant portion of England covered in purple on the weather maps.

Maps for 6 am suggest that heavy snow will continue to fall across England and southern Scotland, possibly at a rate of one inch per hour. Flurries are also anticipated in the northern regions of Scotland.

Snowfall is expected in East Anglia and Kent by 9 am as the blizzard progresses eastward. Later in the day, snow coverage maps reveal widespread snow from the South Coast to the far north of Scotland.

Snow depth charts indicate substantial snow accumulations, with up to 55cm (22 inches) expected in the Scottish Highlands, 6cm (two inches) in northern England, and similar amounts in Wales and the Midlands.

The Met Office has also forecasted potential snowfall for the upcoming week, with a likelihood of snow over hills, and the possibility of snow in other areas as well.

According to the Met Office’s forecast for January 27 to February 5, weather systems moving in from the Atlantic may bring spells of rain or showers, especially in the south and west, with wintry showers expected in colder regions.

Looking ahead to February 6 to 20, the Met Office predicts a continuation of wet conditions in central and southern areas, with drier weather expected in the north and northwest of the UK. Colder temperatures in the north and northeast could lead to wintry hazards, particularly in hillier areas.
