UK Heatwave: 18 Counties Set to Sizzle Above 34C

Date:

Weather models indicate that 18 UK counties could experience temperatures exceeding 34C on Monday and Tuesday, with the ongoing heatwave showing no signs of abating. The Met Office has projected potential highs of 35C on both days, potentially marking the hottest May days on record, surpassing the current record of 32.8C.

Yesterday marked the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures exceeding 30C for the first time in 2026. Today is expected to be even warmer, with possible highs of 32C in southern regions. The record for the year is likely to be broken on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the UKV weather model, temperatures could reach 34C on Monday in regions as far north as Lincolnshire, with most of central and southern England experiencing temperatures in the low 30s. The weather maps indicate possible highs of 35C in London and the southwest on Tuesday, with 18 counties in England potentially seeing temperatures of 34C or higher.

The latest forecast from the Met Office suggests temperatures will continue to peak at 28C or above until at least Thursday. An official heatwave is declared when temperatures exceed the heatwave threshold, ranging from 25C to 28C depending on the county, for three consecutive days.

Looking ahead to June, the Met Office forecast for May 28 to June 6 predicts continued fine weather and light winds for most areas, with the possibility of a few showers and thunderstorms in the west on Thursday. Inland temperatures are expected to remain warm or very warm, while coastal areas may feel cooler, especially with onshore breezes. Cloudier conditions and occasional rain showers are anticipated in June, interspersed with warm and dry weather.
