UK Prepares for Snowstorm: 18 Regions on Alert

Date:

The UK is bracing for a significant weather change with temperatures set to drop and snow expected across at least 18 regions, as shown in striking weather maps.

Anticipated snowfall in the upcoming days covers various areas including Essex, Suffolk, Powys, and the Scottish Highlands. The WXCharts maps, based on Metdesk data, illustrate large white and grey areas across the nation, with the onset expected early on Wednesday, March 25.

Wintry conditions are forecasted to begin around midnight on Wednesday, persisting throughout the day. Scotland is likely to be the most affected region, with council areas like Aberdeenshire, Argyll and Bute, and Perth and Kinross expecting snow as early as 3 am, with temperatures dropping to as low as -4C.

Northern England, including Northumberland and North Yorkshire, will also experience snow before it clears by evening, moving towards the East of England. By 6 pm, lighter snow is expected in parts of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and Norfolk. Meanwhile, Scotland may see snow depths reaching up to four inches.

Additionally, rainfall is predicted throughout the day, with possible sleet in many areas. The Met Office forecasts a sudden change in weather patterns this week, indicating a shift towards rain, strong winds, and colder temperatures.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Steven Keates, warns of the impending unsettled weather after a period of milder conditions, stating that Wednesday could bring a significant change to the current weather pattern.

This shift marks a drastic contrast to recent warm weather, as seen with temperatures reaching 16C in Cardiff and 15C in Ross-on-Wye on Sunday. However, meteorologist Jo Farrow predicts colder conditions for the new week, with the likelihood of snow showers and blustery winds as a result of an approaching low-pressure system from the Atlantic.
