A prominent chain of pubs in the UK has revealed its decision to shut down all 106 of its establishments in the upcoming weeks. Beefeater, renowned for its aged steaks and diverse grilled dishes, has officially confirmed its permanent exit from the pub-restaurant sector on September 10.
The closures are a part of the comprehensive restructuring plan by Whitbread, the owner, aimed at saving £250 million. This initiative includes the closure of all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre locations, putting approximately 3,800 jobs at risk.
Customers were informed about the closures through a letter sent to Beefeater reward club members, as reported by the Southend Echo. The letter stated, “We have recently announced changes to our operations, resulting in the closure of our Branded Restaurants. This means that on Thursday, September 10, 2026, your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will cease operations.”
Dominic Paul, the CEO of Whitbread, cited “significant cost increases” as the driving force behind the company’s decision to undergo a major overhaul. A company spokesperson mentioned that they aim to retain a substantial portion of the affected employees and will explore opportunities to redeploy as many impacted colleagues as possible, as per The Sun reports.
The closure dates for Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block are still pending confirmation.
