A woman from the UK has been sentenced to six years in prison for her involvement in a blackmail case amounting to £100,000 in Hong Kong. Identified as Isabel Rose from Hackney, east London, she was found guilty of blackmail and perverting the course of justice by District Court Judge Adriana Tse. The judge emphasized the clear evidence that Rose, aged 26, had demanded the substantial sum from the man she accused of rape.
Following the trial, the 26-year-old was handed a six-year prison term at the District Court in Hong Kong and was transferred to Tai Lam Correctional Institution, the oldest maximum security women’s prison in the region. Despite her attorney’s plea for leniency based on her lack of prior convictions and foreigner status in Hong Kong, Judge Tse dismissed the request, noting that Rose had been restricted from working or leaving the area for two years leading up to her trial.
In 2024, the woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a man in his residence in the affluent Mid-Levels area of Hong Kong. Identified as X during the legal proceedings, the man was initially arrested on suspicion of rape. However, Rose herself was later apprehended on charges of blackmail after allegedly demanding £100,000 from him.
During the subsequent trial in March, Rose faced accusations of perverting the course of justice, with prosecutors claiming that she had filed a false report of rape. The man, on the other hand, was never charged, with Judge Tse describing him as a trustworthy witness while labeling Rose as unreliable and dishonest.
The sentencing by Judge Tse consisted of a five-year term for blackmail and three years for perverting justice, with one year to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of six years behind bars for Isabel Rose.
