Ukraine has announced plans to escalate its attacks on Russia as the Kremlin prepares to deploy over 400,000 new troops to the frontlines. This decision follows a series of successful strikes by Kyiv against Russia over the weekend, including significant damage to Kremlin oil facilities.
In response, Russian military leaders have directed the formation of 11 new divisions this year to intensify efforts to secure a favorable outcome in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The total number of Russian troops mobilized in 2026 is projected to reach 409,000, with the potential for additional reinforcements from North Korea.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian military strategists are strategizing new offensives within Russian territory to draw attention and resources away from the main front. Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander in Chief, Oleksandr Syrsky, emphasized the importance of offensive operations to maintain the initiative in warfare, highlighting plans to establish at least 11 divisions and conscript approximately 409,000 personnel.
The prolonged conflict has taken a heavy toll on Russia, with casualties numbering over a million troops due to death and injury. Ukraine has also effectively disrupted Russia’s oil-dependent economy and hindered the ability of local authorities to provide essential services to civilians during harsh weather conditions.
Despite facing significant losses, Russian forces have struggled with logistical challenges, including inadequate weaponry and malfunctioning equipment supplied by North Korea. The conflict has resulted in substantial losses for Russia, including thousands of tanks, artillery weapons, armored vehicles, aircraft, and warships.
In contrast, Ukraine has managed to inflict damage on Russian assets, including submarines, through targeted sabotage missions. Syrsky pointed out the lack of substantial progress by Russian forces in capturing Ukrainian territory, highlighting successful defense strategies that have thwarted enemy advances and preserved key positions.
Looking ahead, Ukrainian military leaders remain confident in their ability to counter Russian aggression and continue strategic operations to safeguard their territory. The resilience and tactical prowess displayed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces have proven effective in repelling enemy offensives and maintaining control over strategic areas.
