Samsung TV users in the UK are set to receive a significant upgrade at no extra cost, providing access to a variety of additional content. UKTV has announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing viewers in the UK to enjoy content without the need for extra equipment.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. As part of the partnership, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual programs without navigating through menus.
In the upcoming months, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden will be directly accessible through Samsung’s Universal Guide via a deep link into the U app. Samsung anticipates that this rollout will encompass millions of Samsung TVs, with the channels prominently featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring easy access to UKTV’s live and on-demand content for viewers relying on internet-based television.
Jonathan Newman, Commercial General Manager at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened collaboration with Samsung, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility of the U app and the continued visibility of UKTV’s diverse content across video-on-demand and live channels.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the vital role of UKTV in enriching the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs. He underscored Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the entertainment experience by providing customers access to a broad range of broadcast content through partnerships like the one with UKTV.
Although the exact launch date has not been disclosed, users can expect these new features to be integrated into Samsung TVs shortly, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
