A couple engaged in an “ultimate dine and dash” scenario by consuming Baby Guinness shots and steaks worth £230 at The Halfway House in Brentwood, Essex, before fleeing without settling the bill. Deanne Perkins, the establishment’s general manager, disclosed that the incident occurred on May 16. Surveillance footage captured the audacious pair being seated and then requesting a table close to the rear exit.
Their deliberate choice of seating location led Deanne to suspect premeditation. The duo ordered multiple starters, two steaks, 14 shots of Baby Guinness, and ice cream. After swiftly consuming the food, the woman exited through the front door seemingly engaged in a phone conversation, while the man discreetly departed through the rear exit.
The couple was later seen sprinting across the parking lot. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, Deanne discovered they had absconded without paying. She shared the video online to caution other businesses about them. The woman eventually returned to settle £90 of the bill but the man remains uncontacted.
Deanne described the couple as unassuming, with the woman nonchalantly paying part of the bill later. The man’s whereabouts remain unknown. Deanne emphasized that such incidents are disheartening and appreciated the public’s support post the online sharing of the footage. Essex Police has been approached for comment.
