A courageous university student fought fiercely against an intruder in her residence and tragically suffered 67 stab wounds in the brutal attack. Xana Kernodle, 20, bravely defended herself and her boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, from Bryan Kohberger, who had already killed her roommates Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen. Despite being unarmed, Ms. Kernodle resisted the assailant, but ultimately succumbed to the relentless stabbing, sustaining severe injuries to her jugular vein, back, chest, and face according to her autopsy report.
Following Ms. Kernodle’s death, Kohberger proceeded to murder Mr. Chapin in the off-campus rental property in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. He was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. Fortunately, two other roommates survived the attack, thanks to Ms. Kernodle’s courageous actions.
The court documents revealed that traces of blood from Ms. Mogen and Ms. Goncalves were found in various locations around the house, indicating the horrific nature of the incident. Autopsy reports confirmed that the victims were attacked while lying in bed and never had the chance to defend themselves. Despite being physically overpowered, Ms. Kernodle put up a valiant fight against Kohberger, leaving a trail of evidence that showcased her unwavering resistance.
