US military aircraft are now employing powerful ‘bunker buster’ bombs in Iran, capable of targeting structures buried up to 100 feet underground. These bombs, known as GBU-72/B Advanced 5000-pound Penetrators, are specifically designed to destroy heavily fortified and deeply buried installations.
Reports indicate that the primary aircraft utilized for these operations is the B1 Bomber, similar to the ones observed taking off from RAF Fairford in the UK. Although it is unclear if these aircraft were involved in recent attacks on Iran aimed at neutralizing the country’s underground missile and drone facilities, the B1 Bomber is increasingly being deployed due to the perceived degradation of Iran’s air defenses and the high-risk nature of the missions.
In retaliation, Iran has launched ‘cluster bomb’ missiles targeting Israel, resulting in casualties, including the tragic deaths of an elderly couple in Ramat Gan. These strikes followed the killing of key Iranian figures, including Ali Larijani and Gholamreza Reza Soleimani. Israel has reported the elimination of Intelligence Minister Esmaeil Khatib in response.
Despite these targeted assassinations, Iran remains resolute in its stance, asserting that the regime will endure. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for the retaliatory strikes on Israel, framing them as retribution for the slain individuals.
Israeli analysts emphasize the significance of Larijani’s elimination, highlighting his pivotal role in decision-making during the conflict. Iran’s Foreign Minister has reaffirmed the country’s stability, emphasizing the resilience of its political structure in the face of targeted killings.

The situation has also seen casualties in Iran, with attacks on the judiciary resulting in fatalities. The US has deployed additional military personnel, including marines aboard the USS Tripoli, equipped with F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters, near Singapore.
