“US Military Air Strike Kills 3 in Drug Smuggling Boat Attack”

Date:

Dramatic video footage captures the moment a suspected drug smuggling vessel is struck by a US military air attack in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in three fatalities.

The video, lasting 11 seconds, displays an aerial perspective of what US officials refer to as a “lethal kinetic strike” on the boat believed to be engaged in narcotics trafficking activities.

The assault led to the deaths of three individuals, bringing the total casualties from strikes on alleged drug-carrying boats during the Trump administration to 133.

A statement issued by the US Southcom Command (USSC) in conjunction with the video release indicates that the boat, engulfed in flames post-strike, was operated by a designated terrorist group.

The USSC statement revealed, “Intelligence confirmed the vessel’s involvement in narcotics trafficking operations while traversing established drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean.”

No US military personnel sustained injuries during the operation, marking over 38 similar attacks carried out since early September.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently suggested that significant drug traffickers in the region have halted narcotics activities indefinitely due to the effectiveness of recent kinetic strikes.

Critics have raised concerns over the legality of these strikes, questioning the lack of due process for individuals aboard suspected vessels before being targeted.

Advocacy groups, including the Washington Office on Latin America, argue that extrajudicial executions of suspected drug smugglers at sea violate both US and international laws.

The call for alternative approaches, such as law enforcement boarding and legal prosecution, for individuals involved in illicit activities rather than resorting to lethal military action.

The UK and Canada have also expressed reservations about the legality of these strike operations, with reports suggesting British officials paused briefings to avoid complicity.

President Donald Trump has defended the military actions as necessary in combating cartel operations in Latin America to curb drug trafficking.

Separately, US military forces continue maritime operations, with recent boarding of a Panamanian-flagged tanker, Veronica III, allegedly evading sanctions on Venezuelan oil shipments.

The Pentagon did not disclose the fate of the tanker but confirmed the boarding of another vessel, Aquilla II, in a similar operation. The use of naval power to enforce sanctions and intercept suspected illicit cargo-carrying vessels underscores Washington’s strategy.
