“US Southern Command Destroys Suspected Drug Boat, 2 Dead”

Date:

Video footage released by the US Southern Command captures the moment a suspected drug-trafficking boat was targeted and destroyed, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

The stark video shows a violent strike hitting a small motor vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The US Southern Command alleged that the vessel was involved in drug trafficking activities but did not offer substantiating proof. The footage depicts the small boat swiftly moving through the water before being engulfed by a blinding explosion.

Following the strike, two individuals were confirmed dead, and a search and rescue mission was initiated for a potential survivor, as announced by the Trump administration on Friday.

The US Southern Command stated it executed a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel allegedly operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations.

The department, under the leadership of Pete Hegseth, referenced “intelligence” that purportedly confirmed the boat’s involvement in traveling along established drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific. The US Southern Command also labeled the deceased individuals as “narco-terrorists.”

Despite assertions based on intelligence, the US government did not present concrete evidence to support the drug trafficking allegations, nor did it disclose the identities of the three individuals aboard the vessel.

This recent strike marks the first reported attack on suspected drug boats since the capture of Venezuela’s leader, Nicolas Maduro, who was taken to the US.

Before Maduro’s apprehension, the Trump administration had conducted over 30 strikes on boats allegedly linked to illicit activities off the coast of South America, resulting in approximately 100 casualties.

Despite the administration’s claims that the individuals aboard these vessels were criminals, some observers suggest that many of these boats may have carried innocent fishermen working at sea.

A family shared their distressing story, revealing that a 42-year-old fisherman named Alejandro Carranza set sail on September 14 but never returned home. Carranza departed from a remote town near Colombia’s border with Venezuela, and the day after his departure, the US government announced the interception of a suspected “drug” boat in the Caribbean Sea.

Speaking to Aljazeera, Carranza’s childhood friend, Leonardo Vega, expressed concerns about Carranza’s fate, suggesting he may have been caught in the bombing. Carranza’s family refuted the President’s allegations that he was a “narco-terrorist,” emphasizing his lifelong dedication to fishing.

The Trump administration’s focus appears to have shifted primarily to seizing oil tankers, with several tankers being intercepted and brought to the US.

Additionally, the Republican administration has imposed sanctions on tankers traveling to and from Venezuela as part of a broader crackdown on illicit oil trading activities worldwide.
