“US-UK Joint Military Base Targeted in Iranian Missile Attack”

Date:

A coordinated attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles has been reported on a joint military installation shared by the United States and the United Kingdom. According to sources, Iran launched two intermediate-range ballistic missiles towards Diego Garcia, a strategically positioned military base situated in the Indian Ocean. This base, one of the two facilities granted by the UK for defensive measures against Iranian missile threats, was the target of the recent assault.

The incident signifies a deliberate escalation of hostilities beyond the confines of the Middle East. Recent actions by the US and Israel against key Iranian sites on February 28 prompted retaliatory strikes by Iran across the region, intensifying tensions.

In response to the evolving situation, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently authorized US operations from British bases to target Iranian missile sites aimed at the vital Strait of Hormuz. This decision, approved by British ministers on March 20, expanded the previous restrictions that limited US strikes from UK bases solely to protect British interests in the Middle East.

Fortunately, the attempted missile strikes on Diego Garcia did not hit their intended target. One missile malfunctioned during flight, while the other was intercepted by a US warship, although the success of the interception remains unconfirmed. This development represents Iran’s first known operational deployment of intermediate-range ballistic missiles, as reported by sources.
