The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements this week as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. The Northern Super League club has welcomed two new defenders to their roster in preparation for the upcoming game.
Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, has joined Vancouver, bringing valuable experience and confidence to the team according to head coach Anja Heiner-Moller. Swaby is known for her physicality and self-assured playing style, which is expected to benefit the Rise on the field.
Kaela Hansen, who previously played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, is another new addition to the team. Described as a proactive player who is keen to contribute to the team’s defensive strategy, Hansen is anticipated to make an impact as a center-back.
Swaby, aged 28, has an impressive background having competed in various top-tier leagues such as the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. Her experience and composure in high-pressure situations are seen as assets to the Rise’s defensive line.
For Hansen, aged 26, joining the Rise marks a return to her hometown of Burnaby, B.C. She expressed excitement about playing in front of a local crowd and being closer to her family once again.
These signings follow the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue studies in law, leaving a gap in the Rise’s lineup. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.
As the Vancouver Rise (5-9-1) strive to secure a playoff spot, currently trailing the Halifax Tides (6-6-3) by five points, the team is focused on the crucial phase of the season. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and showcase their competitive spirit to fans and the league.
