Police have apprehended a man suspected of sexually assaulting a British female tourist and violently robbing an elderly British couple on the same day. The alleged assault on the woman in Tenerife involved the use of a martial arts technique known as a rear naked choke, rendering her partially unconscious. Subsequently, the suspect, who had offered assistance after the victim lost her phone in an isolated area, perpetrated the attack.
Coinciding with the reported sexual assault on March 23, the suspect also targeted an 89-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife, resulting in both tourists being hospitalized due to the physical assault using fists and feet. Additionally, the suspect has been connected to another incident on March 20, where a Swedish tourist was forcefully grabbed around the neck and had her necklace snatched.
The Spanish National Police confirmed the arrest of the suspect, highlighting his involvement in a sexual assault and two violent robberies in Tenerife’s southern region. The initial incident occurred in late March at Las Veronicas in the Playa de las Américas vicinity, with the victim’s prompt alert to the authorities and provision of crucial images aiding the investigation progress.
Further investigations revealed two separate violent robbery cases in Arona municipality, aligning with the suspect’s physical description and the extreme violence exhibited in both instances. One of the victims was an elderly couple, where a confrontation arose when the suspect attempted to steal the man’s watch, leading to a physical altercation and theft of their belongings.
A vigilant witness captured a photo of the suspect during one of the incidents, facilitating his identification and subsequent arrest on March 27.
