A police department received a complaint regarding a video circulating online showing an officer restraining a suspect by the neck. The viral video captured multiple officers from Merseyside Police detaining a young man outside a house. The footage depicted officers attempting to gain entry to the house and then leading the suspect out, pinning his arms before forcing him to the ground.
In the video, one officer was observed throwing a punch at the suspect’s head, while another officer detained a woman sitting on garden furniture. In the background, additional officers were seen arresting a second man. A woman recording the incident from a neighboring property expressed concern as she filmed an officer with his hand on the suspect’s neck, urging the officer to stop.
The incident occurred on Gilbert Street in Liverpool’s Baltic area around 1 pm on Monday. Merseyside Police stated that due to the received complaint, they would refrain from further comments at the moment. The complaint is being internally investigated and not currently under the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Nevertheless, two men were arrested, and a woman was charged following an attempted stop check by officers. The suspects were detained after one attempted to flee on foot and discard items over a fence. Police seized several vehicles during the operation.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal activities related to drug possession, while a 24-year-old man was arrested for obstructing a constable. Additionally, a woman, Rachael Taylor, was arrested and charged with assaulting a constable and drug possession. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 17.
