“Virgin Media Customers Urged to Upgrade for BBC iPlayer Access”

Date:

Virgin Media customers with outdated TV set-top boxes are urged to upgrade promptly as the BBC iPlayer app will soon be inaccessible on older devices. Homes using aging equipment will face a block on accessing popular shows like EastEnders, Casualty, and Murder 24/7. Virgin Media confirmed that TiVo box users who have utilized BBC iPlayer in the past six months will lose access starting from July 23.

Affected devices mainly include aging TiVo models launched over a decade ago, while newer V6 and 360 gadgets will not be impacted. Virgin Media is advising customers with outdated boxes to respond to upgrade notifications promptly to avoid service disruptions. Failure to do so will result in losing access to the iPlayer app after the July deadline.

The reason behind BBC iPlayer losing support on older devices remains unclear. This issue is not uncommon, as many platforms, like WhatsApp, also discontinue support for older devices due to compatibility issues with new features. In addition to ensuring continued access to streaming services, upgrading Virgin Media boxes also unlocks regular updates and bonus channels, such as British Screen Classics and wedotv movies, enhancing the viewing experience for customers.
