Virgin Media has announced an upcoming upgrade for some broadband customers, offering improved home routers at no additional cost. The company plans to replace older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices with the more advanced Hub 5, featuring upgraded Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will be notified via email gradually throughout 2026 as the rollout progresses. Virgin Media highlighted that the Hub 5 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage within homes.

Upgrading to the Hub 5 can enhance broadband performance significantly, offering broader Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. Additionally, it is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, enabling quicker downloads and streaming experiences. With Gig1 speeds, users can download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, surpassing the UK average by over tenfold.
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, providing faster speeds, enhanced efficiency, and better performance in crowded environments. It accommodates multiple connected devices simultaneously, operates efficiently across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is also available, Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for the average user.
