“Waitrose Slashes Prices on 160+ Items, Saving Shoppers Big!”

Date:

Waitrose has recently implemented a price reduction strategy on more than 160 of its own-brand products, part of a substantial £20 million investment aimed at assisting consumers in saving money. The price cuts, which average around 12%, with select items slashed by over 25%, encompass various everyday essentials such as free-range eggs, onions, chicken thighs, apples, frozen peas, chickpeas, and chopped tomatoes.

Nearly half of the discounted items belong to the Essential Waitrose range, signifying the ninth phase of New Lower Prices since 2023. This initiative brings Waitrose’s total investment to a significant £162.5 million across a wide array of over 1,000 products. Despite these reductions, customers are advised to compare prices diligently, as better deals may still be available elsewhere.

Nathan Ansell, the Chief Customer Officer at Waitrose, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing quality products while helping customers save on their most frequently purchased items. The focus remains on meeting customer expectations and delivering a satisfying shopping experience. These savings are applicable across fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, and household goods both in physical Waitrose stores and online.

In other supermarket news, the rate of grocery price inflation has eased, standing at 3.1% higher year-on-year in May compared to 3.8% in April and 4.3% in March. Data from Worldpanel by Numerator indicates that promotions played a crucial role in cost management, with 30.3% of sales involving special deals last month, up from 28.4% a year earlier. Meanwhile, expenditure on full-priced items saw minimal growth, increasing by a mere 0.1%.
