“Welsh Man Jailed for Abusing Wife on Benidorm Holiday”

Date:

A husband who exhibited violent behavior was sentenced to jail for mistreating his wife during a holiday in Benidorm. Andrew Stockman, aged 54, forcibly ejected his wife Sandra from their vacation apartment for two days following a fit of anger in the popular resort town. The couple, who had been together since their teenage years, had planned the Christmas trip as a much-needed escape.

The altercation marked a breaking point for Sandra, who had endured a series of abusive incidents, according to the judge. The court was informed that their marital issues escalated during their Christmas trip to Spain in 2024. Mrs. Stockman had been caring for a friend who passed away during their vacation, but Stockman prevented her from returning home to attend the funeral.

She struggled to arrange the funeral amidst his appalling behavior, which culminated in him evicting her without her passport. After days of being stranded in Benidorm, she had to sneak back into the apartment to retrieve her passport in order to fly back home. Stockman only inquired about her whereabouts after a couple of days and eventually acknowledged the end of their relationship.

The prosecution revealed a history of physical abuse inflicted by Stockman, often intensified by alcohol consumption, occurring monthly. Despite running a B&B together in the last four years of their marriage, the mental and verbal abuse persisted. Stockman’s coercive and controlling behavior led to a divorce proceeding for the couple, who have been married for over three decades and share adult children.

In a statement, Ms. Stockman expressed the emotional toll of enduring years of abuse, highlighting Stockman’s manipulation and control over her and their children. She lamented the lost opportunities for a normal adult life due to Stockman’s dominance and emotional manipulation. Stockman, from Llay, North Wales, admitted to coercive and controlling conduct.

The sentencing resulted in Stockman receiving a three-year and five-month prison term. Judge Timothy Petts condemned Stockman’s pattern of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse, including threats of harm towards his wife, labeling it as a reprehensible history of abuse.
