The White House under Donald Trump has announced an impromptu Press Conference scheduled for today. This announcement comes in the midst of growing outrage following the tragic shooting of an unarmed woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota.
Earlier today, a large gathering of protesters assembled outside an immigration enforcement facility in St Paul, Minnesota, in response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, by an ICE agent as she attempted to drive away.
The press conference is set to commence at 1pm in Washington DC, corresponding to 6pm UK time. In a post on Truth Social after the incident, Trump made false claims based on a video he saw, alleging that the driver deliberately ran over the ICE agent and that the agent was injured, which was not the case.
Trump also asserted that the officer who fired the shots was undergoing treatment in a hospital, though there is no evidence to support this claim. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz denounced the misinformation, stating, “I’ve watched the video. Don’t believe the propaganda.”
Walz further criticized the chaotic handling of the situation, expressing disbelief that the federal government had already formed conclusions about the incident before proper investigation. He questioned the actions of federal agents at the crime scene and emphasized the need for decency and accountability in such circumstances.
