The White House went into lockdown following a shooting near the Washington Monument. Law enforcement identified a suspicious individual who fired at Secret Service officers and was subsequently shot. Deputy Director Mathew C Quinn mentioned that the incident occurred shortly after JD Vance passed through the area.
The Secret Service confirmed that an armed individual engaged in a confrontation with their personnel at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. A young individual sustained injuries in the incident but is reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention.
The shooting incident occurred at a distance from the White House, across the National Mall. Despite the distance, the White House was evacuated briefly until authorities gave the all-clear signal. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington, DC, initiated an investigation into the matter, securing the area for further examination.
Road closures are expected in the vicinity as the investigation continues. The recent event follows a prior incident where Cole Tomas Allen allegedly attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with President Trump present. Allen faces charges of attempted murder of the President and two firearms offenses.
