“Woman convicted of husband’s murder in kitchen knife incident”

Date:

A woman has been convicted of murdering her husband after claiming he accidentally fell on a small knife in their kitchen. Daryl Berman, 72, insisted that the death of her husband, David Berman, 84, was a tragic accident. However, during a retrial at Minshull Street Crown Court, she was found guilty of murder following the fatal incident at their home on Butterstile Lane, Prestwich.

Prosecutors revealed that Berman stabbed her husband without a clear motive, leading to his death. The court learned that emergency services were called to the scene by Berman, but suspicions arose when a senior pathologist identified the fatal wound as characteristic of a homicide. Additionally, Mr. Berman had defensive injuries, further casting doubt on the accidental nature of the incident.

Despite the couple’s seemingly harmonious 27-year marriage with no history of violence, Berman’s behavior raised concerns among Mr. Berman’s family after his death. She reportedly displayed a lack of emotion and a matter-of-fact demeanor, prompting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise.

The court heard that Mr. Berman, who had been diagnosed with dementia and health issues, was found with a fatal chest wound at their home. Berman’s version of events, alleging an accidental injury, was initially accepted by authorities, but subsequent examinations and testimonies raised suspicions leading to her arrest on suspicion of murder.

During the trial, Berman emotionally defended herself, denying any involvement in her husband’s death and expressing deep affection for him. However, the prosecution’s case, supported by evidence and testimonies, led to her conviction for intentionally causing her husband’s death.

Berman has been remanded in custody pending sentencing on July 3. Senior Crown prosecutor Sazeeda Ismail emphasized the strength of the prosecution’s case and expressed condolences to David Berman’s loved ones during this challenging time.
