Andy Milne, a companion of the famous ‘World Cup Guy,’ has struck a fortunate deal with Hilton Hotels during the current tournament season. This arrangement came about after a report by the Mirror disclosed that he intended to sell his second property to finance his journey to support the England team in the United States. Although two property viewings have taken place, there have been no offers as of yet.
His close friend and former colleague, Stuart Kenyon, a geography teacher from Northwich, Cheshire, is now traveling for free to all World Cup venues due to this connection. Their journey began with a stay at the Hilton in Dallas, where they engaged with England supporters from various parts of the US. This marks the start of a remarkable seven-week expedition across the country.
Stuart humorously remarked, “It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. We used to organize school trips abroad together with students before Andy’s retirement, but this experience surpasses all others. We’ve been incredibly fortunate.”
Reflecting on their experiences, Stuart commented, “Last night, I enjoyed a meal of steak and shrimp, and the quality of our accommodation truly enhances our journey. Following England this way is a fantastic experience, although Andy is putting in a lot of effort.”
Andy, aged 63, recently published a book titled ‘That World Cup Guy,’ chronicling his adventures at nine World Cup events. He is actively promoting his book at the current World Cup and participated in an ‘England Night’ event at the Seven Doors Kitchen in Dallas.
Having served as a teacher alongside Stuart at The Grange school in Cheshire, Andy is relishing his time in the United States during this tournament. Both Andy and Stuart secured £45 tickets through the official England fans’ club as a gesture of appreciation for their unwavering support.
“I’ve attended every World Cup since 2006,” Andy shared. “This one has been quite demanding so far; the venues in Dallas are spread out, requiring significant travel for fans. Nevertheless, the stadium is breathtaking, and I believe I have a prime viewing spot. It’s crucial to savor every moment.”
After the tournament, Andy, soon to be a grandfather, plans to travel to Australia with his wife to visit his daughter, who is expecting their first grandchild. If England emerges victorious, he intends to update his book with new chapters to commemorate the crowning achievement of following the national team.
Andy gained recognition during the Qatar tournament for his exuberant celebration holding a replica of the Jules Rimet trophy following England’s triumph over Senegal in the round of 16, an image that was featured in the Mirror.
Jacob Quintana, manager and owner of Seven Doors, expressed his delight with the England night event, highlighting the sense of unity and joy among fans coming together, irrespective of team affiliations.
Stijn Bastiaens, Vice President of Marketing and Loyalty at Hilton, emphasized the importance of providing top-tier accommodation for England supporters like Andy. Hilton’s support for Andy extends beyond lodging, with plans to feature him in a new campaign alongside notable figures like Jordan Pickford, Ray Parlour, Jill Scott, and Morgan Rogers.
