Three individuals have been swiftly transported to a medical facility after an alleged attack by a large “XL-bully type dog.” Law enforcement officials responded to a dog-bite incident at a location on Barrie Way in Bolton just before 3:30 pm today.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, paramedics, police dog units, and armed officers, were present at Hall i’ Th’ Wood, a historical manor house in Bolton that now serves as a museum. Witnesses reported that an “XL-bully type” dog was involved in the incident, and the police confirmed that the dog was apprehended.
Authorities disclosed that all three injured persons were taken to the hospital via ambulance. Armed officers, accompanied by a dog handler, retrieved the animal from the property and transferred it to an animal transport vehicle. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
The ban on XL bully dogs was implemented by the government in 2024, following concerns raised by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about the threat these dogs posed to communities. Statistics indicate a significant increase in dog-related incidents over the past five years, with a notable portion involving the now-prohibited XL bully breed.
Unregistered pets can be confiscated, and their owners may face fines and legal action. Owners had until February 1, 2024, to register banned dog breeds, with approximately 40,000 dogs listed for euthanasia before the deadline. Other banned dog breeds in the UK include the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro.
The government recently announced plans to introduce enhanced safety protocols for banned dog breeds, aiming to safeguard children from potential risks posed by these animals. Effective November 1, 2026, owners of banned breed dogs must ensure that children under 12 are not left unattended near the animals in domestic or private settings without adult supervision, as stipulated in the Certificate of Exemption.
