Volodymyr Zelensky is set to make history by being the first global leader to meet with Andy Burnham during a pivotal encounter in the UK scheduled for Monday.
The Ukrainian President is anticipated to rendezvous with the Prime Minister at a British naval facility, where the PM will impart crucial expertise to facilitate the production of cutting-edge electronic disruptors aimed at thwarting Russian defense mechanisms. This collaboration will enable Ukraine to manufacture a series of devices called Stone Cloak, designed to shield its drones from detection and interception.
Mr. Burnham lauded the technology as a prime example of British ingenuity, stating, “Britain stands firmly beside Ukraine, and our commitment remains steadfast. Russia should be under no illusions about our determination, and we will persist until we secure a lasting and equitable peace for Ukraine.”
Under the initiative, the UK is sharing the intellectual property for Stone Cloak, which will be integrated into the upcoming generation of UK deep-strike capabilities. The British armed forces will deploy these disruptors to enhance Project Brakestop – the UK’s novel cost-effective cruise missile program. To aid in drone operations, thousands of these compact devices have already been donated to Ukraine.
The move, as per No10, represents a setback for Russia in Putin’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine. During Zelensky’s visit, he and Burnham will meet over 200 Ukrainian military personnel and sailors who have undergone training in the UK over the past three weeks.
The UK has previously committed to providing £3 billion annually to Ukraine for as long as necessary, amounting to a total of £25 billion in support since 2022.
In a separate development, Burnham disclosed his willingness to stand up to Donald Trump if it aligns with Britain’s national interests. In an upcoming BBC interview, he emphasized the importance of assessing individuals on personal interactions, indicating his readiness to prioritize British interests.
