A woman who almost missed out on a £1 million Omaze jackpot finally discovered her massive prize after initially ignoring emails. Steph Churchill, 36, was unaware of her newfound millionaire status until she checked her inbox following a trip back from a funeral. Omaze officials had trouble locating Steph as she hadn’t provided a contact number.
Due to a recent change in address, Omaze had to search through different properties to get in touch with Steph. After finally responding to the emails, Steph’s life changed dramatically in just a few moments.
To celebrate, Steph enjoyed Champagne straight from the bottle in a cricket club car park upon receiving the news. Her husband, Rob, refrained from drinking as he was driving and returned to work the next day as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
Reflecting on the experience, Steph mentioned, “I’d been traveling back from a funeral, so I was totally offline, and I missed all the emails.” Curiosity led her to open one of the emails eventually. The Omaze team informed her of the win and rushed to her old address to share the good news, as she had not updated her new address promptly.
Steph shared the news with friends, who initially thought she was joking. Despite the initial disbelief, the couple took their dogs for a walk to bring some normalcy back into their lives.
Dream trips to France, Japan, and Australia are now on the couple’s agenda, along with plans to rescue more dogs and potentially start a family. Steph’s immediate desire, however, is to acquire a luxury hot tub for their garden.
