“£10,500 Gift Boosts Funds for Tate Modern Victim”

Date:

An undisclosed benefactor generously donated £10,500 to the young French boy who was pushed from the Tate Modern balcony, increasing the total funds raised to over £500,000.

The French child, just six years old at the time, was gravely harmed by teenager Jonty Bravery in the August 2019 incident at the iconic London location. Despite surviving the 100 ft (30 m) fall while vacationing with his parents, he sustained severe injuries, including a brain hemorrhage and multiple fractures. Fondly referred to by his family as “notre petit chevalier” (our little knight), updates on his condition are shared with supporters who contribute to his care.

The boy’s recovery, following a surgical procedure in January, has proven to be more challenging and prolonged than initially anticipated. Currently undergoing rehabilitation, he remains hospitalized at a rehabilitation center due to his inability to walk. Recent updates from his family indicate that he has only been granted weekend leaves in a wheelchair over the past three weeks, causing frustration as it feels like a setback in his progress.

Despite these challenges, the family remains hopeful as the boy recently achieved his goal of being able to run, jump, and swim again. They shared his excitement about finding a school perfectly suited to his needs, which he was able to visit prior to his operation. The boy has made new friends at the school who eagerly await his return, offering him unwavering support during his absence.

The family expressed uncertainty about the duration of his hospital stay, emphasizing their commitment to stand by his side throughout his ongoing battle and recovery. The GoFundMe appeal, initiated by London nurse Vicky Diplacto in support of the boy’s medical expenses, continues to accept donations to aid in his care.

In a separate development, Bravery, now 24, faced legal consequences for his actions. Following the incident, where he admitted to attempting murder, he received a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years. Recent court proceedings saw him sentenced to 16 weeks for assaulting two nurses at Broadmoor in September 2024, adding to a previous 14-week jail term in 2020 for similar misconduct at the same facility.
