“Trump Orders Troop Withdrawal from Germany, Eyes Italy and Spain Next”

Date:

Donald Trump has ordered the withdrawal of 5,000 US troops from Germany following remarks by Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticizing the US strategy in negotiations with Iran. Merz’s comments led Trump to publicly berate him on social media, highlighting issues with Germany’s policies on immigration and energy.

The Pentagon confirmed the troop withdrawal, stating that it was part of a broader review of US military presence in Europe. The move is expected to be completed within the next six to twelve months. Trump hinted at a possible pullout of troops from Italy and Spain as well, expressing dissatisfaction with their responses to global conflicts.

With approximately 35,000 US military personnel stationed in Germany, this withdrawal would revert troop levels in Europe to pre-2022 numbers. Concerns have been raised by analysts over the impact on NATO forces in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in deterring potential Russian aggression.

Despite questions from reporters, Trump remained silent on the troop withdrawal as he departed from Florida. The current US military presence in Europe plays a crucial role in deterring aggression and projecting power in various regions, according to defense experts.
