A woman endured a harrowing 25-year captivity in a British mother’s residence, facing appalling conditions and horrifying mistreatment that left her severely emaciated. Amanda Wixon, a 56-year-old mother of ten, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for multiple offenses including assault causing bodily harm, false imprisonment, and forced labor. Despite the guilty verdict, Wixon showed no remorse when sentenced at Gloucestershire Crown Court. The victim, who suffered from learning disabilities and was abducted at 16, was subjected to relentless physical and psychological abuse by Wixon over the years.
During the trial, neighbors testified against Wixon, with one revealing that despite reporting the situation to social services, no action was taken. The victim was found toothless, with calluses on her feet from constant scrubbing, after being held captive since 1997. Fortunately, she managed to escape in 2021 and is now under the care of a foster family, showing signs of improvement and emotional recovery.
Wixon’s cruel actions, which included diverting the victim’s benefits for personal gain, were uncovered in 2021 when the victim used a hidden mobile phone to seek help. The victim was kept in deplorable living conditions and denied basic necessities, while social services failed to intervene effectively. Despite Wixon’s denial of the charges, evidence showed the extent of the abuse endured by the victim. Detective Sergeant Alex Pockett described the victim’s ordeal as “horrendous” and highlighted the significant impact it had on her well-being.

However, the lasting trauma from years of abuse continues to affect her daily life, with nightmares and an ingrained urge to clean as remnants of her captivity.
