Freed British captive Emily Damari has shared with the Mirror her plans to write a book detailing the 471 days she spent in Hamas captivity and her subsequent recovery post-release. The book is set to be published around October 7th, the anniversary of her freedom in 2023, when she was abducted alongside her friends Ziv and Gali Berman from her Kibbutz.
According to a close friend, Emily intends to release the book in the UK as a tribute to her loyal British supporters and Spurs fans who advocated for her release during her ordeal in the Hamas tunnels. The scheduled release date is expected to be on or around October 7th. After her release, Emily, accompanied by her mother Mandy, attended a Spurs match wearing a club shirt from their White Hart Lane days, where she expressed gratitude to her supporters, calling them family.
The forthcoming tell-all book, to be published by Little Brown, will shed light on the harrowing experiences of Emily, who was forcefully taken from her kibbutz by Hamas militants. In a tragic incident, Hamas kidnapped 251 individuals and caused the death of approximately 1,200 people, including some British nationals, in a single day. Among those released by Hamas on January 19, 2025, were Emily, Romi Gonen, and Doron Steinbrecher, who were held captive by the militant group.
Emily, who possesses dual British-Israeli citizenship and now resides in Israel, gained attention for her brave gesture of defiance, displaying a V-sign with the fingers that remained intact after sustaining injuries during her captivity. She expressed satisfaction upon learning of the death of her Hamas captor, Muhammad Nasr Ali Quneita, who was killed by the Israeli military in Gaza City on June 19. Emily emphasized the importance of holding such perpetrators accountable for their actions.
