Greggs is set to introduce a new permanent menu item, a chicken version of its renowned sausage roll. The bakery chain describes the chicken roll as seasoned chicken encased in layers of crispy, golden, glazed puff pastry. Priced at £1.35, it will be available starting Thursday, building on the success of Greggs’ classic sausage roll and its vegan alternative.
To give fans a taste, Greggs will host a pop-up VHS store at 15 Bateman Street in London on Wednesday from 3.30pm to 9pm. The pop-up will feature a secret entrance decorated with roll-themed VHS tapes, such as Lord of the Rolls and The Devil Wears Pastry.
Customers interested in trying the new chicken roll must attend in groups of three, symbolizing the trio of sausage roll varieties now offered. Slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, Greggs will serve complimentary chicken-themed cocktails and mocktails.
A Greggs spokesperson expressed excitement about the launch, emphasizing the chicken roll as the latest addition to the bakery’s trilogy of iconic rolls. Following this release, Greggs will introduce a new big breakfast wrap in 82 stores across Yorkshire, featuring sausage, bacon, cheesy omelette, and a hash brown.
In other news, Greggs revealed plans for vending machines to dispense its pastry snacks, exploring automated and manual vending solutions without specifying launch dates or locations. Despite a 17.9% decline in pre-tax profits, the company remains optimistic about future growth, aiming to surpass 3,000 UK shops from the current 2,739 locations.
While facing criticism for price increases, Greggs assured customers of no additional hikes this year. This commitment aligns with the company’s goal to maintain competitive pricing and expand its presence in the market.
