A suspect has been apprehended for interrogation regarding the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, as per reports. ABC News has disclosed that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, in collaboration with the FBI, has taken an individual into custody at a location south of Tucson.
Law enforcement officials are preparing to conduct a search at a site linked to the detained individual. This development follows the release of images showing a masked individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s residence.
On the night of her disappearance, the masked person, carrying a handgun holster, was captured on camera outside the elderly woman’s front door. These images, revealed on February 10, depict the individual wearing a backpack and a ski mask, concealing their face and attempting to obstruct the camera with a gloved hand and a piece of plant from Guthrie’s yard.
FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned that the “armed individual” seemed to have interfered with the camera. The footage was extracted from data on backend systems after a prolonged effort by investigators to retrieve lost, corrupted, or inaccessible images.
Following the image release, former FBI agent Katherine Schweit remarked, “This will generate numerous potential leads. Even when a person appears fully covered, there are still identifying features that can be observed.” Investigators have confirmed that Guthrie was forcibly taken after she was last seen at her residence on January 31. Savannah Guthrie, the host of “Today,” has been actively campaigning on social media for her mother’s safe return and made a heartfelt appeal on Monday.
After purportedly receiving ransom notes for the journalist’s mother, Savannah announced that the family would comply. In a video shared on social media, she implored, “We have received your message, and we plead with you to return our mother so we can rejoice with her. This is essential for our peace of mind, and we are willing to make the payment.”
