A court trial heard that a teenage girl was thrown out of a fourth-floor window by her boyfriend in a reported attempt to kill her. The incident took place at Merton House in Solihull, Birmingham, where graphic CCTV footage showed the girl falling onto the grass below from a height of over 37 feet. Emergency services were not contacted until more than an hour later.
The accused, Jordan Herring, 22, from Solihull, is currently facing trial at Birmingham Crown Court, denying the charge of attempted murder. CCTV footage allegedly captured Herring callously walking down the stairs after the incident, displaying a lack of concern. He and his mother then covered the injured girl in a blanket and carried her back inside.
According to prosecutor Jamie Scott, the victim, an 18-year-old, had been in an abusive relationship with Herring, involving confinement, phone checks, and physical assaults throughout 2022. The court was informed that Herring violently assaulted the girl before the incident, resulting in severe injuries.
The prosecution claimed that Herring planned the act of throwing the girl out of the window by preparing the room and removing safety features. The girl, despite surviving the fall, sustained serious injuries. She recalled Herring threatening to kill her before the fall.
Afterwards, Herring sought his mother’s assistance in handling the situation without calling for medical help promptly. The victim’s family grew concerned, leading to her being taken to Herring’s mother’s flat under disguise. The girl was later airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries, including collapsed lungs, a ruptured spleen, and multiple fractures.
Herring was uncooperative with law enforcement officials at the scene, claiming the victim had jumped voluntarily during an argument about infidelity. The court was also informed that Herring had a previous conviction for coercive and controlling behavior towards the victim.
